Hello, all.
I'm back after more than a year away from the blogosphere.
First off, I really felt no need to blog any more in the style of our year away in Ann Arbor. For one, most everyone reading the blog was seeing us on a regular or semi-regular basis. For another, I write most of the day for my away-from-home job so the thought of writing again at night almost seems like overtime.
So the reason for this blog: The weekly brain-gymnastics I perform to figure out 1) what we're going to eat 2) how much it's going to kill our bank account and 3) how I'm going to get it all prepared so that we're avoiding eating something frozen. Or eating out.
As much as I love the gourmand pursuits (and keep shelves of Gourmet, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine and Saveur on hand), this is not one of those foodie blogs. Although I read and admire many of them, I don't feel the need to add to that genre. I work part time, live in a mid-sized Southern city with so-so grocery stores and have two small children who leave little time for homemade everything. These days, I'm saving the frou-frou cooking for a rare grown-ups only dinner.
What I do believe in is a diversity of food that can be prepared easily (or somewhat easily) that will not break the bank each meal. Time is too precious and money is too short. I hope that I can help other busy people by sharing some of our favorite recipes.
